Dronninglund and the surrounding country

- Placed in an area of natural beauty

The town of Dronninglund

Dronninglund is situated in the northern part of Denmark. From Dronninglund there is only a short distance to Aalborg - which is the fourth biggest city in Denmark - and to Aalborg Airport and Railway Station, as well as to Frederikshavn and Hirtshals.

If you arrive by bus or car, Dronninglund is situated very closely to motorway E45. Turn at exit 16, drive seven kilometres to the east - and you will reach Dronninglund.

The town itself is situated in a distinctly agricultural area south of Dronninglund Storskov. Storskoven - The Big Forest - is the biggest forrest in Vendsyssel - the highest point is ‘Knøsen’ (128 metres high) - with only 8 kilometres to the Kattegat.

Dronninglund has approximately 3000 inhabitants and forms the centre of north eastern of Jylland with schools, a gymnasium (an upper secondary school), a hospital and a large number of shops and firms.

Driving into the town from the west, you will see the landmark of Dronninglund - the old beautiful Dronninglund Castle which functions partly as a hotel and restaurant. Dronninglund Castle is among other things the place of the Leaders’ Meeting on Tuesday the 12th of July 2016.

The surrounding country

In the village of Try, three kilometres to the south-west of Dronninglund, you will find Try Museum which offers an excellent opportunity to become acquainted with the local history. A bit longer northwards and on the other side of the ‘Storskov’ is ‘Dorf Mølle’ - the Mill of Dorf - which is a part of Try Museum. Next to the mill, the Museum of Hunting and Game is situated.

Finally there is also the wonderful nature with forrest, beach, meadows and the ‘Sømose’ - an area of bogland - that you will enjoy visiting as a tourist.

If you drive a bit further around in Vendsyssel, the farthest point to the north is the town of Skagen with its fishing port, famous painters and the two seas that meet on Skagen’s ‘gren’ - the very northern tip of the town. In the southern part of Vendsyssel, we find Aalborg - the fourth biggest city of Denmark - with all kinds of shops, an amusement park, a Zoo and an art museum. Furthermore, in the western part of the surrounding country you will find Faarup Sommerland - an enormous ‘playground’ with the biggest aquapark in Nothern Europe.
